Western Sydney community leader Jamal Rifi takes down front yard COVID-19 clinic

When Western Sydney doctor Jamal Rifi started a makeshift COVID-19 clinic in his front yard early in the pandemic, he had no idea it would stay open for nearly three years.

More than 37,000 Western Sydney residents visited Dr Rifi at his home to receive their first, second, or booster vaccine, but now the partitions have come down.

"It's been almost 34 months non-stop in front of my house," Dr Rifi said.

"I opened the clinic so anyone with cold and flu symptoms, they could come in to be assessed by me.

"We thought that anyone who had any COVID or COVID-related symptoms, we can actually assess them, treat them, test them in one spot."

Former Australian women's cricket captain Belinda Clark honoured with a statue in bronze at the Sydney Cricket Ground

One of the greatest women's cricketers of all time, Australia's Belinda Clark, has been honoured on day two of the Sydney Test with the unveiling of a statue of her at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Clark has latterly been one of Australia's leading cricket administrators after a brilliant career that saw her captain Australia's women's team for more than a decade and hold numerous records, including the most Test and ODI runs for an Australian woman, and the top international score for an Australian woman — 229 not out.

The Clark sculpture — a world-first for a female cricketer — which shows her playing an attacking shot on the leg side, was created by NSW artist, Cathy Weiszmann.

Unions NSW splits from Labor on cashless gaming to stop 'scourge on society'

The top union leader in NSW has clashed with Labor over major gambling reform and urged the party to back the Coalition government's proposal for a cashless gaming card.

Unions NSW secretary Mark Morey is backing the government's plan, which would stop gamers from using cash at any of the 90,000 pokie machines across the state and force them to upload money onto a gaming card.

The plan has drawn ire from the chief executive of the RSL and Services Clubs Association and powerful lobby group Clubs NSW, which has already launched an opposing campaign ahead of the March state election.
