Australia to fund an extra 10,000 home aged care packages at cost of $850m

The Morrison government will fund a further 10,000 home care packages for elderly Australians at a cost of more than $850m in Thursday’s pre-Christmas economic update.

The increase in care packages follows a commitment in the October budget to fund 23,000 new packages at a cost of $1.6bn.

While the government has been increasing funding for in-home care ahead of the final pronouncements of the aged care royal commission in February next year, officials from the health department told a Senate committee in September that more than 30,000 elderly Australians had died before receiving home care packages for aged care in the past three years, despite being assessed as eligible.

Foreign affairs officials allowed to skip hotel quarantine when returning to Australia

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other government officials are being allowed to skip government-mandated hotel quarantine when returning from abroad, instead spending two weeks at home.

In mid-July, Australian government officials working overseas were given a special exemption when returning to Australia from government business, allowing them to quarantine in private at their own homes.

The exemption is particularly useful for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which has roughly 2,939 of its 5,988 staff working overseas, according to its most recent annual report.

Broken promises: Why tens of thousands of Australians will be stranded abroad this Christmas

The caps are one of the many stringent border controls the country has adopted in its battle against COVID-19. The government has banned foreign travelers from entering the country and barred its own citizens from leaving since March, meaning those looking to return under the cap scheme are Australian citizens and permanent residents.

Many have no jobs, no visa, no healthcare, no access to welfare, and in some cases, no permanent roof over their head.

How is End of Lease Cleaning Different from Regular Cleaning?

If you are a tenant then you must have heard the term ‘end of lease cleaning’ many times. People who have moved multiple times have heard and performed bond cleaning. However, people who are moving out of a rented real estate in Sydney for the first time should understand what end of lease cleaning is and how it is different from regular cleaning. Read on to find how both forms of cleaning are different and whether you should hire professional cleaners in Sydney to deep clean your rented house or apartment.

How is End of Lease Cleaning Different from Regular Cleaning?

Regular cleaning is everyday cleaning you do to remove dust, dirt, food particles, and contaminants from general surfaces and objects. It is performed to maintain your household hygiene and keep members of the family healthy.

End of lease cleaning in Sydney or bond cleaning is different from regular cleaning because it is only performed when a tenant has to move out of a rented property. This type of cleaning is done to return the rented property in the same condition it was in at the time of occupancy.

Unlike regular cleaning, bond cleaning cannot be performed with your property contents inside the real estate. Most professional cleaners in Sydney have a condition that the clean-up can only be done when the tenant’s belongings have been moved and the property is empty.

Should You Hire Professionals?

US shocked that Australians will be stranded abroad this Christmas

It’s no secret that Australia’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic has been, for the most part, a success.

In comparison to other Western nations — the United Kingdom and the United States chief among them — our conduct and swift uptake of restrictions has been lauded by leaders, experts and media around the globe.

But 10 days from Christmas, and on the doorstep of a COVID-normal 2021 spent waiting for a vaccine to be approved and administered, one “draconian” rule unfairly penalising Aussies has drawn the world’s attention.

Australia says it will pursue all avenues on reports of China coal restrictions

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said any shift by China away from imports of high quality Australian coal would be a "lose-lose" for the environment and trading relationship.

Chinese media outlets including The Global Times and Caixin on Monday reported China`s top economic planner had granted approval to power plants to import coal without clearance restrictions, except for Australia.

Australia on Tuesday urged China to clarify the reports, which it said would breach international trade rules if true.

New Zealand’s cabinet has agreed to establish a quarantine-free travel bubble with Australia in the first quarter of 2021, the prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, has said.

Australia storms: Floods spark evacuation warnings for NSW towns

Australian authorities have issued evacuation warnings for low-lying towns in northern New South Wales (NSW) as storms batter the nation's east coast.

On Tuesday, emergency officials said they had fielded about 150 calls for help in the past 24 hours.

Huge swells pummelled the coasts of NSW and south-east Queensland on Monday, causing major erosion.

An already depleted beach at Byron Bay - a popular holiday spot - had all but disappeared, locals said.
